These past few days have been great. Yesterday, I rendezvous with Lisa for another tryst and today …what a day it was. First off, it rained. I love rainy days. I hate rainy days. A contradiction perhaps, but I hate the fact that rainy days forces a construction worker like myself to lose a day of work sucks. Yesterday, I knew it was going to rain. So, I decided to answer a Craigslist ad for someone looking for a professional painter. The one thing I always look for before taking a job is a nice neighborhood. Being from the ghetto it feels good to get out and travel to suburbia or the Upper East Side of Manhattan every now and then. Frankly, I enjoy going to wealthier neighborhoods from time to time.
I found a married couple looking to have their bedroom painted in green (eew) and paying $125 for the job. For that kind of money, I made sure to put my best foot forward in my response. I’ve made a habit of taking photos of every paint job I do for my company to show what type of worker I am.
I sent them over an email with my qualifications and last night around 10, Jim (the husband) gave me a call asking if I was interested in doing the job. Hell yeah I was. I figured I could complete that type of job in less than 3 hours. He was excited and complimentary on the photos of previous jobs I sent him and gave me the address to his house.
Jim was obviously a career man. “I’ll be at my office when you come in the morning to work, but my wife will be there and she’ll assist you with whatever you need”, he said to me as we were getting off the phone last night. Jim was cool, but he certainly didn’t strike me a “ladies man”. He seemed like the epitome of the “good provider, nice guy”. More power to him.
I woke up this morning to heavy rainfall as expected. Regardless, rain gives me a sense of tranquility and I had a job to do.
Usually, I leave my house in the morning anywhere between 7 and 8 depending on how far away the job is from my crib. This morning I was able to leave a bit later which was a pleasant change to say the least. It was cool being able to take my time and have a nice workout in the morning for once.
This particular job was in New Rochelle (a small city above NYC) and I decided to take the bus there. It wasn’t going to be a long commute. The bus dropped me off about 8 or so blocks away from the house and I had a decent walk in the rain. I decided to smoke a cigarette before I arrived there. Usually, I don’t smoke when meeting women, but fuck it, for that walk I needed one.
After about 10 minutes of walking, I arrived at a nice-sized, two-story beige house with a solid blue front door. The front lawn was well trimmed and the neighborhood was very quiet and serene. I’ve always told myself I want to live in a place like this in the future. That is, if I decide to grow up and settle down. Time will tell.
