A Christmas Miracle

The Legacy

Legend has it that when Salvador the Archer, out of desperation, poached a deer inside the sacred grove of Ariccia, Diana, the Virgin Goddess of the Hunt, caught him. To repay his debt to the goddess for sparing his life, all the women descendants of his line were to be the protectors of her house. To help them with this task, Diana had bargained with Pluto, the God of the Underworld for his prized huntresses. Merging them with her disciples, the huntress and woman became one, living harmoniously until the mating heat gripped the huntress.

After the first set of disciples went crazy during the mating heat and killed their lovers, it’d became apparent no disciple would ever be able to mate with a human and not kill him. Diana’s twin brother, Apollo, after seeing the decimation of such ‘matings’, approached Pluto and asked for his own disciples to be merged with the hunters, the natural mates of huntresses. Once mated with the hunters, both the disciple and huntress were at ease and could mate and love without fear of killing. While mated pairs and triads were still disciples of the separate houses, all children of the matings were said to be promised to Diana, and both disciple and child would return to her service alone forever more.

Part One: The Request

Jase Rambaudi crossed his arms over his naked chest and stared down at his mate, Rebekah. Dustin, his brother, and the third member of their triad was leaning against the open doorway to their bedroom, also wearing nothing but a pair of half buttoned jeans. The look of determination on his twin’s face mirrored his own.

“I’m not going to change my mind, Rebekah. We need to get married.” The anger in his voice would’ve made a lesser woman flinch. Rebekah seemed to be oblivious. Using her arms to pry her very pregnant body out of the chair she’d been sitting in, she started to waddle past him. I don’t need this right now. In less than an hour I’ve got a doctor’s appointment.

“I’m not going to marry either of you, Jase.” Bracing herself on the solid poster of their bed, she attempted to retrieve her boots. Outside, the snow was coming down, promising a white Christmas. When she straightened after snagging one of them out from under the bed, the babies in inside her huge belly jockeyed for position. She hissed as one of them sat down on her bladder. The immediate need to use the bathroom had her waddling towards it.

“Why the hell not? This is ridiculous. Where are you going?”

She answered without looking at him. “Bathroom, and you’re not invited.” When she approached Dustin, her look dared him to stop her. Wisely, he moved out of the way. Muttering under her breath, she finished what seemed to be the hundredth trip of the day to the bathroom. Shutting the door behind her, she clicked the lock into place. I wouldn’t put it past them to follow me in here. Sitting down, she caught her reflection in the mirror. Her once luscious auburn hair was now a frizzy mess, tendrils escaping out of her braid, despite the fact she’d just braided it a few minutes ago. Her face was fuller than it ever had been, and sometime during the past seven months, the ‘tit fairy’ had visited her - turning her already ample breasts into porno material. Her stomach was swollen and it looked like a reenactment of the ‘Alien’ was occurring while her babies kicked and moved. Christ, I’m as desirable as a beached whale. No wonder they haven’t touched me in weeks. Perhaps I shouldn’t try to fight the legacy. It’s not as if I’ll never see them again. Every time my huntress goes into heat and until the next of the line is assured and born, I’ll have them. It’s almost sad to think it's going to be the destiny of my life until my child-bearing years have passed.

* * * *

“What the hell are we going to do, Jase? She won’t listen to reason. We’ve tried seduction, we’ve tried withholding sex but nothing has worked. Why won’t she marry us?” Dustin paced the hall outside the bathroom.

“I don’t know. There has to be something more. A reason we don’t know about and we don’t have much time before our girls are born. I refuse to let them be born Archers. I love Rebekah, but our daughters need our last name.” Jase rubbed the back of his neck.

“Anyone ever tell you, you’re a chauvinist, Jase? We’re not dealing with a normal woman. Rebekah is the last of her line and a disciple of Diana. Every woman in her line has had the Archer name. It’s been a tradition passed from mother to daughter. “

“Like hell! Our girls are going to have our last name. I don’t care what the hell the bitch goddess wants. ”

“Such language, Jase.” The familiar voice and burst of sandalwood incense filled the room and had Jase turning.

“Master Apollo!” Both he and Dustin dropped to one knee.

“Rise. There is no need for that.”

Both men slowly stood and faced the God of Healing, their master and twin brother to Rebekah’s goddess, Diana. Jase immediately noticed the pallor of Apollo’s skin. His normal vibrancy was missing.

“How can we be of service to you?”

Rubbing the back of his neck, Apollo focused on the twins. “I have a request of you.”
