Derrick James the new name in Mystery!
A wry smile touched his lips as he read the headline. It was a nice send off from his old editor.
Derrick stood glancing about the small reception room, waiting for his very first interview to begin. The large window to the actual radio booth gave a hint of his reflection. His dark wavy hair was kept short, giving it that perpetual just rolled out of bed and fresh from the shower look. A strong jaw and firm lips canted perpetually in that warm half-smile. Dark eyes, with no flecks of green or gold in his mahogany gaze. The obsidian tint giving that sense of seriousness needed to get others to open to him and offer information he needed.
Derrick had spent the last six years as a reporter, more importantly, working the crime beat. His last expose had helped catch the serial killer, Carson Lancet, who preying on the exotic dancers of the city. It was that story that made him a well known writer and the story he had used to help craft his first mystery novel.
It was also how he met Nikki Angel.
Whether that was her real name or a stage one, she would never tell him. She would just turn her luscious lips into a teasing smile and change the subject. She was lithe from her years of dancing but there was a wanton voluptuousness to her hips and breasts that begged to held in a man's arms. Emerald eyes that held a spark of laughter and summer and the most tantalizing lips, all framed in long strands of delicious strawberry blond. They had been dating now for three months and his thoughts of her almost had him miss the intern waving him into the booth.
