Introduction

Marcus laid his head down on his Mom’s hospital bed and closed his eyes. He couldn’t take another hit right now; telling their Mom that Aury was missing would do her in. Already today the doctors had given their final judgment. She probably had less than a week, two on the outside to live. Their father had died in the tragic accident at the Steel Mill when they were two. Marcus had no other family, except for Aury.

Marcus counted a total of two miracles in his life to date. One that he was born minutes before Aury and hadn’t ended up with that horrendous name that their Mom thought was so hilarious. And two, their father had left them a tidy sum to survive on all these years. With Marcus’s strong knack for investments, that sum was now a virtual fortune. Although their wealth had come at a heavy price. He’d fought with Aury since college about the companies he’d chosen to invest in. Tree hugging wasn’t his thing, but it certainly was Aury’s. Investing in oil companies, railroads and even the steel companies had caused them to go their separate ways. He’d tried to tell Aury that the very money that enabled him to go on his ridiculous conservation explorations was provided by these companies. Aury would hear nothing of it; he pretended not to notice the large sums deposited into his bank account. Marcus knew he spent every dime though.

Even earlier today when their Mom begged him to reunite with his twin, Marcus felt the pang of irritation in his chest. It was her dying wish she’d said; there was no way around it. Lifting his head he fingered the gold cross that he and his twin had worn since their first confirmation. Other than their remarkably similar appearances, the only things that they maintained were the crosses. She’d given them the matching gold necklaces telling them that when they touched them, they’d remember who they were. God was present in all things, but his efforts were doubled in twins. Ironically, it hadn’t been long after their confirmations that they’d gone their separate ways. Marcus on the football team, flirting with cheerleaders (sleeping with those he could). And Aury seeking answers to life that clearly weren’t meant to be found.

Marcus stood up, placing the note on the side table. Mom would find it in the morning when she woke up, but he couldn’t bear to see her reaction when she read that he’d gone into the woods to find Aury. Leaving her alone, on her deathbed, caused Marcus even more resentment towards his brother; there was already plenty of that to go around. Still, if this is what she wanted, then he would drag Aury in, kicking and screaming if need be. He closed the heavy door quietly and walked down the hospital hallway. The nurse at the semi circle counter saw him leaving the room. She looked at him with little interest as he put his arms on the counter in front of her. “If she wakes up, tell her I’ve gone to get Aury and I’ll be back soon.” She nodded accepting his message so he turned towards the elevators.

The phone call had given him little to go on. Aury’s global positioning system had been found drenched in a stream deep in the woods of Canada. They’d tried to conduct a search from the air but the tree cover was so dense that nothing on the ground could be seen. A short ground search had shown blood remnants on a few rocks by the stream, but nothing else. The last report was over seventy two hours old. He’d have to go out and find him for himself. He turned his SUV towards the border and pressed the gas.

Stranger in the Forest

Hayley knew that he couldn’t see her; she blended in perfectly with the scenery around her. The woods were shadowy this time of the morning anyway. Why yet another researcher came into the area was beyond her. It didn’t make any sense; the last explorer had gone mysteriously missing, and another had been taken by the wolves. Hayley knew where the first one was; he was gloriously ensconced in her cousins bed, doubtful he had any regrets about giving up his former life at this point. Their Clan had ways of convincing men to do their biddings; as of yet, no mortal man had been able to resist them.

Hayley’s powers hadn’t fully developed yet; normally a Land Nymph’s persuasion skills weren’t at capacity until she had twenty and five rings. Hayley only had nineteen. Bringing home a mortal man at this point in her life would be almost impossible, as well as scandalous. It didn’t matter anyway, even if she did manage to bring him into their Clan, one of her cousins would surely take him for their own. It would take a Nymph much stronger than she was to keep him bound to the Clan forever. Still, he was bleeding rather profusely at the moment. He would most likely die if she just left him here like this, which would be a complete waste of his handsome tanned body she noted.

Marcus rinsed his face with the water from the stream. Blood seemed to gush without end from the opening on his cheek. He cursed having to be out here in the middle of nowhere looking for Aury. It went against his very nature to exploit the beautiful unused woodlands that were left in the world. Yet, he still couldn’t grasp how Aury spent his time with nothing but trees for company so often. He patted his cheek with the roll of gauze from the tiny first aid kit he’d thought to bring with him. He may have failed to right the world in Aury’s view, but at least he could make sure his Mother saw her sons together one last time. All he needed to do was find Aury and return to town. Hopefully there he could get a country doctor to stitch up his cheek.

Hayley saw the movement in the brush behind the man. She knew it wouldn’t take long before the wolves smelled the blood and came in search of their dinner. They’d change him into one of them, she knew it. Once they saw that he was an able bodied human, they wouldn’t resist the chance to have him for themselves. They’d drag him into their lair and change his blood to match their own. Then they would use him for more of their useless killings. Meat eaters were disgusting, vial creatures, and turning this gorgeous man into half wolf half human form would be a tragedy. She had to do something to stop this.

Marcus held the gauze to his cheek and gazed up towards the sky. The trees around the stream were so dense that the canopy they created caused evening type darkness around him. Tiny sparkles of sunlight that made it through, only to blind him as they bounced off the running water. He wasn’t sure whether to put his sunglasses on or keep them off. Suddenly he felt a sense of sleepiness coming over him. Had he lost so much blood that he was going to faint? Splashing the cold water on his face, he tried to make sense of what was happening. His mind was slowly giving way to the exhaustion he felt.

Hayley concentrated quickly; she’d practiced for years on squirrels and other small forest creatures but never on a human. If she could get him unconscious, she could save his life. Otherwise, he was doomed. She saw him feeling the effects of her power; he appeared to be getting sleepy. It was working!

Marcus waded through the stream towards the tree lined beach, the small amount of sand there was at least clear of debris and he could rest. His knees dug into the sandy ground and he crumpled in a heap, the last of his energy drained. Dying out here in the forest seemed so ironic; if he had the strength he would laugh about it. As his eyes closed he pondered how bleeding to death was such a painless way to end his life.

Hayley was startled when he waded close to her. She could smell past the cologne that masked his musky human scent. When he finally gave way to her powers, he was merely three feet from where she knelt. He collapsed unconscious on the sand. Snarls came from the bank on the other side of the stream. The wolves were now in plain view. They were edging close to the water when she stepped away from the tree and became visible to them. Catching sight of her, they huffed and issued growls of indignation. No wolf worth their salt would attack a Nymph; their treaty forbid such an act. Still, on occasion a Nymph would disappear from the Clan. No one ever knew if they had succumbed to becoming part of the forest or if the wolves had killed them. Hayley’s mother suspected the latter and had instilled a great sense of fear into her daughter.

To Safety

Moving quickly she grabbed the man’s arm; he was much heavier than she expected. Getting him into the forest wasn’t going to be easy. Keeping one eye on the wolves across the stream, she tugged and tugged. Dragging him through the brush was probably causing more damage to his fragile human body, but here was no way around it. Finally she had him in the cover of the thick underbrush. Pulling a mano leaf from a branch, she pressed it to the cut on his face and the bleeding stopped instantly. The sticky substance from the leaf adhered to his skin, bonding the cut sealed. It would provide healing as well as antiseptic and numb the pain from the injury. It was a wonder that humans had no concept of first aid, she thought. If they did she wouldn’t be in this predicament.

She had to get him to her cave. Since she turned eleven rings, she was required to spend her monthly mensa days in the cave away from the men in the Clan. Her scent would be too powerful for them to resist, and breeding at her age was forbidden. Hayley hadn’t minded the retreats; she rather enjoyed the time for reading. That was exactly what she’d been doing when she heard him crash on the slimy stones around the stream.

Snatching a banana leaf from a nearby tree she rolled him onto his side. Sliding the leaf beneath his back she would be able to drag him much easier to the cave. She put her hands on his ankles and pulled, his heavy body scuffing the forest floor in a trail. She’d have to remember to come back and erase the path later.

With the man finally inside the tiny rock formed cave, Hayley sat down on the ground beside him. The small powers that she had would no doubt wear off shortly and he would wake up. What then? Blood from his face had dripped all over his clothing. The wolves would certainly find them, and then both of them would be cornered inside the cave. She had to get this shirt off and burn it. On her knees, she leaned over his unconscious form, using her knife to cut his shirt away from his body slowly. Waking him up right now would cause alarm; he’d alert the wolves with the noise. Once she was finished, she could burn the shirt in the small fire she had ready for her afternoon reading light. The fire would mask his human scents… scents that were becoming more and more obvious the more she cut away his shirt.

First Look

Hayley peered sheepishly back at his bare chest as she lit the fire. She’d never seen a naked man before. Until she had twenty and five rings she wasn’t allowed to take a man. Men were only used for one thing… breeding. Otherwise, the women could entertain themselves.

She’d had plenty of erotic encounters with her friends. Oakley had been her favorite playmate from the time they had thirteen rings. This was different though; his chest was broad and without breasts. His nipples were flatter, and surrounded by curious small hairs that formed a circle around them. He smelled so wonderful too; not the fruity, sweet smell of her Nymph friends. His scent was like the woods; it was dark and musky more like a bed of straw from a pine tree once you dug beneath it. That was it! He smelled like the earth itself! How incredible was that? She bent forward to pick up the pile of scraps that were all that was left of his shirt and drew in his smell. Her fingers trailed the circles around his nipples in awe. She shouldn’t be touching him; if anyone found out she’d be cast as a wanton and forced to survive on her own.

Marcus’s mind was picking up odd movements around him. Tiny fingers were touching him, and everything around him seemed so warm and inviting. Heaven was a fantastic place, he thought to himself. Whatever the smell was that permeated his nostrils was sending the nerve endings in every part of his body into fits of desire. So this was it? Heaven was about being sensually aroused. Who didn’t wonder about that! Now the answer was right before him. His cock rose to meet the demands of his rising temperature. The dreamy warmth he felt was full of comfort and a sensuality he’d never encountered. His muscles relaxed and he silently absolved never to open his eyes again. No, he’d lay here and feel this incredible feeling for eternity.

Hayley watched in horror as the front of the man’s pants grew. Something was terribly wrong with him! He’d only cut his face she thought, but now something else was swelling beneath his pants. Reaching for her knife she cut through the button and down the front of the cloth. He must have hit a rock when he fell! She had to see what the injury was if she was going to help him. Gently she peeled the damp cloth away from the front of his body, his snake popped from the opening with eagerness at its new freedom. Hayley caught her breath. Her face turning a shade of crimson even though she was alone in the cave with him. What a fool she was! She’d read all about men’s bodies in her books she knew that they had cocks and what they were for. However, seeing one up close was another story. She certainly didn’t expect them to be so large. Glancing at his face she saw that he was still very much asleep.

Certainly there was no harm in touching the thing? As secretly as possible she moved around him so that the light from the fire illuminated the cock. She wanted to get a clear view of what it looked like. It appeared to be surrounded by a circle of dark hairs like the ones around his nipples. This was a much larger and thicker mass of curls though. The cock itself was larger than she thought when she read the steamy mortal stories in her cave on nights she was alone. She held her hand up to it to measure; it was longer than the length of her fingertips to her wrist. Probably it was bigger around than three or four of her fingers. She held three fingers out beside it, yes, four was a better measure. Leaning over it she saw two eggs covered in pink wrinkly skin below it. Her fingers poked at the eggs just lightly. The skin covering them seemed to tighten into even more wrinkles when she touched it! The stick of the cock straightened, drawing her attention back to it. Again she checked his face for alertness, his eyes were still closed but his chest seemed to be rising faster now. She’d have to hurry if she was going to see what it felt like before he woke up. Her fingers touched the silky skin; the feeling was different than her own skin somehow. She touched her arm for measure. The skin on the cock was thinner, softer. It felt like the underside of a leaf in spring, velvety and plush. Pressing her fingers to the cock she was surprised to find that it had a thick, hard center beneath it. The hardness of it shocked her. What she’d read in her books indicated that this cock thing was supposed to go inside her. There was just no reasonable way for that to happen! Something this size could hardly fit inside her. She slid her fingers into her mouth, testing the taste and smell. It was the source of the earthy scent.
