A love lost so soon
Chapter One
Jennifer said to herself “I have the house to myself for a whole week,” as she was waking up. Her parents, Frank and Alma, were on their way to visit her sister, Cindy and brother-in-law, Ryan in Alabama. Jennifer was the kind of young woman who liked to have the house to her. Nevertheless, she wishes she could share it with someone, a man.
Jennifer has always been attracted to men younger than her. However, she felt inferior to them. Most men have been attracted to her blue eyes and her blonde hair. Since Jennifer is older than a lot of men that she is attracted to, she felt she should be taller than them. However at five feet four inches tall and 122 pounds, Jennifer was thankful that she was born attractive. She has been depressed that she would never leave her parent’s house after her financial difficulties. After Jennifer got out of bed, she went to the kitchen to get the coffee ready. She then went to the bathroom, turned on the water, took off her clothes and got in the shower. As the one hundred and ten degree water cascaded over her body, Jennifer thought, “Ah, this is perfect.” When she was finished, Jennifer dried off, and wrapped up in a towel and set out her clothes for work. Jennifer then went back to the bathroom and brushed her beautiful blonde hair.
Jennifer said to herself, “I wonder what my best friend Cori would say if I was to come to work in a towel.”
Cori, Jennifer’s friend, was about Jennifer’s height, with brown hair. She weighs about 145 pounds. Cori was also seventeen years old.
Jennifer then took off the towel and got dressed. She decided to wear her new jean skirt and her favorite sweater. She likes to wear skirts more often than pants or jeans. As Jennifer put on her panties, she decided to wear pantyhose. As she was getting dressed, she heard the phone ring. When she answered, it was her father asking if she was awake. He said that he and Alma were near Bowling Green, Kentucky. He then said he would see Jennifer next week. Jennifer then said bye and hung up.
Jennifer then put her watch on her right arm, as she is left-handed. She then went to get some coffee. Jennifer then turned on the television and found an infomercial about purchasing real estate. She thought that investing in real estate would be a great way to make money without having a boss. She also thought about not having anyone with which to share her life. Jennifer put her coffee down and started to cry. Jennifer knew she could count on Cori to make her feel better. As Jennifer finished her coffee, she got her purse and left for work. She then pulled out of the driveway and decided to fill her car with gasoline. Jennifer arrived at the gas station about twenty minutes later. She pulled up to the pump and filled up. Jennifer saw her friend Cori at the gas station.
Cori then asked, “Hey, Jen, how are you?” She also noticed that Jennifer sounded upset and asked her what was wrong. Jennifer said that she was twenty-seven years old and never had a boyfriend.
Cori told her “Jen, you’ll find someone when you don’t expect it”.
As Cori finished paying for her gas, Jennifer paid for hers.
“That will be $32.18,” said the cashier.
As the male cashier swiped the card, she said that the card was declined due to the network being unavailable.
As Jennifer frantically searched her purse, she was looking to see if Cori was still there. Jennifer then found two twenties. As she nearly fainted, she pulled them out and gave them to the cashier. The cashier gave her change and Jennifer nearly dropped it on the floor.
“Jen,” Cori inquired, “are you okay? You look like you seen a ghost.”
“My debit card was declined. I was afraid I didn’t…”
Before Jennifer finished her sentence, she and Cori heard a loud crash. A truck ran a red light.
“Oh, my god,” another woman said.
A man ran over to the accident scene to offer help.
Jennifer got her cell phone from her purse and dialed 911. The operator said the accident had been reported. Shortly afterward, Cori said an ambulance was on the way. Jennifer ran over and seen that a little boy had a cut on his head. As she saw police cars coming, Cori went to Jennifer and asked what was wrong.
“That little boy is bleeding pretty badly,” Jennifer cried.
A police officer asked a witness what happened. The man who ran over to help said that a teenage driver sped through the red light. Another witness said that there were no skid marks. As the police were questioning the witnesses, the firefighters were cutting the cars apart to get the people out of their vehicles. The teenager was being put into a neck brace onto a stretcher.
“Oh, good,” Jennifer thought, “he won’t be driving for a while.”
“Do I know him?” Cori said to herself.
Cori recognized the crumpled truck as belonging to someone she goes to school with.
“Jen, I know him,” Cori said, “every day after school he would squeal his tires and cut in front of me to get out of the parking lot.”
“I feel bad for the little boy,” Jennifer said. The mother, about Jennifer’s age, was unconscious.
Jennifer then left the police officer her name and number. As Jennifer got in her car, she prayed for the mother. She got in her car and went on to work. Three minutes later, Cori was behind Jennifer in her car. When Jennifer pulled into Wal-Mart, a young man was in his truck playing loud rap music.
“I hate rap music, some of the language is degrading to women,” Jennifer thought.
“Hey, sexy, Want to act out this song?” he said to Jennifer.
“No, I don’t think so.” Jennifer said to him.
As Jennifer went inside, she told Ryan, the store manager, about the man outside.
“I’ll take care of it,” he said.
Jennifer went to the break room and took her vest from her locker. She then put on her name badge. Jennifer and Cori looked at the time clock. It was 8:50 a.m. Cori and Jennifer sat at a table and waited to clock in. There was a young woman with brown hair and skinny sitting at the table. Jennifer thought she seemed a little upset. Cashier Elena, who is about Jennifer’s age and height, was also sitting close to Amanda. Elena also started at 9:00 a.m. Elena asked Jennifer if she wanted to join her and Paula for a girls night out tonight.
“I’d love to,” Jennifer said.
Paula said they didn’t know if they would go to Louisville or the bars around Madison. Elena said she would like to go to the bars around Madison.
“Ma’am,” Cori said, “Are you okay?”
“This is my first day. I am Amanda. I’m supposed to be in toys.”
Cori then introduced herself and introduced Jennifer. Cori also introduced Elena.
“It’s nice to meet you. You’ll like working here.” Jennifer said.
Cori joked that she would not want to be in toys. Elena also said she did not know if she would want to be in toys.
“There’s never any little kids that mess up things,” Jennifer joked.
Mary in personnel then called on Amanda to show her how to clock in. Jennifer and Cori also followed. Elena and Paula then waited for Mary to clock Amanda in.
“Okay, Amanda. You will only use the time clock four times a day,” Mary said.
“When is that?” Amanda asked.
“You clock in for the day, clock out for lunch, and clock in an hour later. Then the fourth time is to clock out for the day.”
Mary then clocked in Amanda and handed Amanda her new name badge. Jennifer and Cori also clocked in. Jennifer and Cori went to the front registers. Elena also followed Jennifer and Cori. Amanda went to toys. Jennifer went to register twenty-six and Cori went to register twenty-three. Elena was at the service desk with Lanita. Co-Manager Beverly said hi to Jennifer, Cori and Elena as they went to the front.
“Jen,” Jeri asked, “are you okay?”
“Not really,” Jennifer said.
Jennifer told Jeri that she was upset about being single. She was also upset about the accident she witnessed. Elena and Cori consoled Jennifer.
“Jeri, the mother was about my age,” Jennifer said.
“It sounds pretty bad,” Jeri said.
Cori then told Jeri that it would be in the newspaper. As soon as Jennifer signed in to her register, a hot looking young person came to her register.
“Hi, how are you, Jennifer?” he said.
Jennifer wondered how he knew her name. She never saw him before. She then looked down and realized he saw her name badge. She then started scanning his items. A few minutes later, she told him his total.
“$85.83,” she then said.
“I’m using my debit card,” he said.
“Just slide it in here,” she said to him, pointing to the card reader.
As she had one leg propped up on the bag platform, Jennifer noticed that she spread her legs. Jennifer then started breathing hard, realizing she just embarrassed herself. As his receipt printed, Jennifer handed it to him and dropped it on the floor.
“Sir, I’m terribly sorry.” Jennifer said.
“You’re okay. It is nice meeting you. You are one of the nicest cashiers Wal-Mart has. I hope to see you again,” he said.
“Have a nice day,” Jennifer told him.
Cori then came to Jennifer’s register and asked what was wrong.
“I just embarrassed myself in front of that guy.”
“What happened?” Cori inquired.
“I told him to slide his debit card in the card reader.”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“I was flirting with him. I told him to slide it. I was talking about his card. My legs were spread at the same time.”
Jennifer then told Cori that he complimented her. Jennifer said that he hoped to see her again.
“It sounds like you may have a boyfriend,” Cori said.
“Well, I’m not sure about that, But I hope so,” Jennifer said.
Just then, Carol, a cashier about Jennifer’s age with red hair, showed up.
“Jennifer, how are you?” Carol said.
“Really horny,” Cori said.
“I wouldn’t say that. I checked out a person about five minutes ago. He was really hot and he said I was the nicest cashier that Wal-Mart has.”
“I dropped his receipt when I gave it to him,” Jennifer added.
“Did he pay by…,” Cori said as Jennifer interrupted her.
“We don’t need to go there,” Jennifer joked.
“I think I’ve heard too much,” Carol said.
Cori then asked why Jennifer wore her watch on her right hand. Jennifer said because she is left handed. Cashier Paula was on register twenty-four. She said hi to Cori and Jennifer. Paula asked what Cori and Carol never noticed.
“We never noticed Jennifer is left-handed,” Carol said.
“Neither of you knew I was left-handed?” Jennifer said.
“No, we didn’t,” Cori said.
“I never knew that,” Paula said.
As Carol prepared her drawer, a person came to her line.
“How are you today, sir?” Carol said.
Jennifer then asked Carol if she should have all the hot people come to where the horniest cashier is.
“Ryan may not like that,” Carol said.
“Jennifer is horny? I didn’t know that,” Paula laughed.
Jennifer asked when Paula came in.
“I came in at 8:30,” she answered.
As Jennifer blew her nose, she sanitized her hands. Jennifer could hear herself wheezing.
“Yeah, I see what you’re saying.” Jennifer joked.
As Jennifer started to hold herself, she turned off her light and called for a CSM. Paula asked if Jennifer was okay.
“Jennifer, did you need something?” said CSM Ann.
“I need to use the bathroom,” Jennifer said.
“Okay,” Ann said.
Jennifer then left her register. When she came back, Jennifer noticed that Cori had a customer with a large order. When Cori scanned the items, Jennifer put them in bags. Cori started to get low on bags. She noticed that Co-Manager Beverly walking by and asked her to get bags. Paula had CSM Ann do an override.
“I’ll be right back,” Beverly said.
Beverly came back with a box of bags and put them next to Cori’s register.
Jennifer noticed the woman had some cases of Dr. Pepper. Cori asked Jennifer to use the hand scanner for the large items. Jennifer went to get a second cart.
“Hey, get your cart from back here,” Nellie told Jennifer.
“Yes, Nellie, I am having a good day. Are you having a good day?" Jennifer said sarcastically.
“I’m surprised they haven’t fired her by now,” Jennifer said to Cori.
Cori asked about whom she was talking. She said she was talking about door greeter Nellie. Paula was listening to Cori and Jennifer’s conversation. She agreed with Jennifer and Cori.
“Yeah, when I went to get my cart, she threw it at me,” said the woman.
“I think the reason they don’t fire her is because of her age. She is rude to everyone. I would say what she is, but, there are customers here.” Cori joked.
“I agree with you, Cori,” Paula joked.
“That’ll be $381.79,” Cori told the customer.
The woman swiped her food stamp card and entered her PIN.
“Incorrect PIN, Please re-enter PIN,” said the display.
“You need to re-enter your PIN, ma’am,” Cori said.
“Okay, I’ll try again,” the woman said.
“That’ll be $92.64,” said Cori.
The woman handed Cori a one-hundred dollar bill. As Cori finalized the order, Jennifer had a customer in her line.
“How are you today?” Jennifer asked him.
“I’m doing okay,” the man said.
He was buying a computer and supplies. Jennifer used the hand scanner on the register.
“This is a nice one,” Jennifer said.
“I am a traveling salesman,” He said.
Jennifer told him that her brother-in-law also is a traveling salesman.
“Your total is $1,147.23.”
“I have a bunch of cash to get rid of,” he joked.
As Jennifer counted the $265.00 out, she told him the new total.
He proceeded to pay with his American Express card. Jennifer then asked for his driver’s license to confirm his identity. His identification matched. Jennifer then told him the new total. As the man left, another man came through Jennifer’s line, appearing very nervous. He handed her the bar code for a large screen TV. When she told him the total, he swiped the credit card and Jennifer asked for his identification and his card. The name on his driver’s license and credit card did not match. Jennifer held the card and license.
“It’s my wife’s card,” he said.
“She’ll have to come in to sign for it,” Jennifer said.
As Jennifer flashed her light, the man was agitated and asked for the card back.
“Hold on, Sir,” Jennifer said as he tried to grab her.
Barbara asked Jennifer if everything was okay. Jennifer showed the card and the driver’s license to her.
“Sorry, sir, we can’t accept your card.” Barbara said.
As he left, he shot a few choice words at Jennifer and Barbara. Paula also heard what he said.
“Way to go, Jennifer,” she then said.
Jennifer was able to remember his driver’s license number and she wrote it down. She also remembered that he lived in Carrollton, Kentucky, about thirteen miles from Madison, Indiana. After that, she went to help Carol with a large order. Jennifer and Paula took their returns to the service desk.
“Hey, Jen, I am going to the Crown Room with some friends tonight. Care to join us?” Carol asked.
“Yeah, who’s going?” Jennifer asked.
“Jeri, Ann and Barbara are going.” Carol said as Jennifer bagged the items.
Jennifer then had a customer in her line.
“How are you, ma’am?” Jennifer asked the elderly woman.
“Not too bad,” she said.
The woman had some groceries and some prescriptions. After about a minute, Jennifer totaled the order.
“That’ll be $74.37.”
The woman started to pull the money from her purse. She appeared to be gasping for breath.
“Ma’am, Are you okay?”
“George, I’m coming home.”
She then fell on the floor. Jennifer called for a CSM.
“I have a code white at register twenty-six,” Jennifer repeated three times.
CSMs Ann and Jeri came to help. Jennifer gave the woman her medicines. Ryan ran past Jennifer and said he would call an ambulance.
“They will be here in about five minutes.”
Jeri then told the woman she would be okay. Jennifer asked the woman who George was.
“He’s my late husband. We met just he left for war.”
“Which war was that? Jeri asked.
“World War Two, I was eighteen and he was twenty,” she said.
The paramedics then came and took over. As they put the woman on the stretcher, Jennifer re-opened her register.
“How are you today?” Jennifer asked a middle-aged man.
He pointed to his ears indicating he was deaf. Jennifer rang up his order. He had mostly grocery items. When she finished the order, Jennifer pointed to the total. The man handed her a blank check. Jennifer then wrote down asking if he wanted cash back. He said he wanted $20.00 back. Jennifer put the check in the scanner. The check went through with no problems. The drawer opened and the receipt printed. She handed him his receipt.
“Have a nice day,” he mouthed to Jennifer.
She did the same to him. Jennifer then sneezed and rubbed her watery eyes.
A young pregnant woman came to Jennifer and asked her what time it was.
“It is 10:31,” Jennifer said as she looked at her watch.
“I’m supposed to meet my boyfriend here at 10:30,” the woman said.
The woman got her cell phone out and called her boyfriend. She sounded upset.
“Where are you right now? I am at Wal-Mart. I’m just inside the GM door.”
Another young woman wanted to put $32.00 on her gift card. When the woman handed the money to Jennifer, Jennifer hit the cash button twice. However, her drawer would not open. Jennifer announced that she needed a CSM. CSM Ann asked if everything was okay.
“Yep, everything is okay. Only thing wrong is my drawer won’t open.” She said jokingly.
What happened was a cord on the back of the register was loose. When Ann pushed the cord back in, the drawer opened with no problem.
“Everything should be fine now,” Ann said.
“Jennifer, would you like to go to lawn and garden for a while? There’s no one back there on the registers.” Ann said.
“I’d love to go back there for a while.” She then said.
Jennifer then closed her register, took the till, and went to lawn and garden. When she put the till in the register, an elderly man asked her about weed killer.
“What do you need it for?” Jennifer asked him.
“I need to get rid of weeds in my driveway.”
“Then you want to get a “kill-all” type of weed killer. Usually it is in concentrate form. We have several good brands,” She then said.
“I’ll try this one.” He told her.
Jennifer said that she would check him out.
“That’ll be $20.75.”
He then paid for the weed killer. Jennifer asked if he needed a bag.
“Yeah, I need a bag.”
As Jennifer put the weed killer in to a bag for the man, a young man came to Jennifer.
“I need twelve red tree rings, “he said.
“Okay, let me find the UPC for them.”
Jennifer took the hand scanner and scanned the UPC twelve times.
“That’ll be $11.09,” she said.
As Jennifer was getting horny, she noticed he had a wedding ring.
“I’ll use my debit card,” he said.
“I’m not going there again,” she said to herself.
“Do you need cash back?” she asked him.
“I need forty dollars back.”
Jennifer gave his money back and told him to have a nice day. Another customer wanted Jennifer to get a bicycle for him. She got up on the ladder to get it down.
“Is this the one you want?” Jennifer asked him.
As she got the bicycle down from the top rack, Jennifer noticed he was looking at her strangely. She then came down from the ladder and went to the register to ring him up. Jennifer then had to blow her nose.
“I have my employee discount card,” he said to her.
“I’ve never seen you before, not to be rude.”
“Oh, I work at the Wal-Mart in Scottsburg,” the man said.
“Oh, what department do you work in?”
“I’m a cashier,” he said.
“That’ll be $144.52,” Jennifer said.
He decided to pay seventy-five dollars in cash, and the remainder on his debit card. When the receipt printed, Jennifer told him to have a nice day. Jeri then called back to the garden center and told Jennifer to take her break. Jennifer then went to her break. She saw Barbara in the break room.
“Barbara, you will not believe what happened to me right before break.”
“What happened?” she said as she sat down.
“I was getting a bicycle for a customer and I think he was looking up my skirt while I was on the ladder.”
“If you see him again,” Barbara said, “call for someone else to help you.”
“I definitely will. I feel like a slut.” Jennifer said.
“At least I was wearing underwear,” Jennifer thought to herself.
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” she then said.
Jennifer then got a soft drink and a candy bar out of a vending machine. She had to go to the bathroom just as she went to sit down. As she was using the bathroom, she was afraid the man would come in there and see her with her skirt down.
“I’m a single horny woman. I should like people checking me out. He just made me sick.”
When Jennifer finished, she washed her hands, pulled her skirt up and finished her break. When her break was finished, she went back to lawn and garden and reopened her register. As she opened her register, a young woman was acting suspicious in the area. Jennifer called for Loss Prevention.
“This is Mike,” said the detective.
“Mike, this is Jennifer in the garden center. I have a young woman about seventeen or eighteen years old. I think she put something in her pocket.”
“I see her on camera. I’ll have a member of management stop her outside the door.”
Jennifer then hung up the phone. A man then came to buy a riding lawn mower. He brought the UPC to her.
“That’ll be $1,032.24, she told him.
“I have six gift cards that I want to use.”
The first one had $2.79 on it. The next three each had $50.00 on them. One had $63.00. The last one had $92.47. The remaining total was $723.98. He decided to use his Discover Card. Jennifer told him his new total.
“Let go of me, damn it. Hey slut, the front of your skirt is unzipped. Get these handcuffs off of me,” said the young woman to Jennifer as Ryan and Shawn in Loss Prevention took her to the training office in handcuffs.
“Watch your mouth,” Ryan said.
“You have a nice day. Do you need help loading it?” Jennifer said to the man.
“Yeah, I will. I’ll pull up to the gate,” he said.
Jennifer then paged Bill and Ronald, cart pushers, to help him. She then turned toward the register and hid her zipper as she zipped her skirt.
Jennifer noticed that she needed more ones, fives, quarters and pennies. She called for a CSM to get her some. A few minutes later, CSM Lanita gave her change.
“I need $161.00,” Lanita said.
As Jennifer got the money from her register, she started to cry.
“Are you okay?” Lanita asked.
“Nothing is going right today. I had a pervert look up my skirt. A woman called me a slut. A person was using his debit card and I had my legs spread. I told him to slide it. I hope he didn’t take it the wrong way.”
“He probably didn’t. I think you are just over-reacting. He came back a few minutes ago and said you were very friendly to him. He also wanted me to tell you not to drop his receipt again.” Lanita said in a joking voice.
Jennifer told Lanita that she felt a little better. She also said she knew who it was that made the compliment.
When Lanita left, Jennifer walked around the garden center in a better mood. She was fanning her vest as if she was getting warm. Jennifer found some glass cleaner and cleaned the scanner. Jennifer started to feel sick as if she was getting diarrhea. She called the CSM podium. Jeri answered and told Jennifer she could go to the bathroom. Jennifer told Scott and Mark she had to use the bathroom. As Jennifer walked to the bathroom, she tried to hold herself. She went to the bathroom, pulled her skirt down and sat on the toilet. After she relieved herself, she got up, got dressed, and went back to the garden center.
“I still don’t feel well. I’ll see how I feel at lunch.” Jennifer thought to herself.
Jennifer went past the pharmacy, saw some anti-diarrheal medicine, and decided to try it.
“I think I’ll get the Wal-Mart brand, it’s usually cheaper than name brand,” she said to herself.
“That’ll be $2.76. How are you Jennifer?” Natalie said.
“I’m okay except for the fact that I have diarrhea,” Jennifer said.
“I had a customer cuss me out today,” Natalie said.
“Why did the customer cuss you out?" Jennifer said.
Natalie said that she asked for someone’s identification when he was buying cold medicine. The person appeared young.
“I explained that anyone who appears to be under forty years old has to be asked for identification,” Natalie continued.
“How old did he appear to be?” Jennifer inquired.
“He appeared to be about thirty.”
“People can be assholes,” Jennifer told Natalie.
“No, People ARE assholes,” Natalie said.
Jennifer then said that a young woman called her a slut. She then told Natalie that she was going back to work.
“Have a nice day,” Natalie said.
Jennifer said the same thing to Natalie. After Jennifer took some of the medicine she bought, she felt a little better. As Jennifer was going back to the garden center, she saw Dave, Cori’s boyfriend, pulling a floor jack loaded with merchandise.
“Hi, Dave, How are you today? You look hot.”
“Hi, Jennifer, thank you.”
“I did not just tell him that. I want him but I cannot have him. Cori will be mad at me. He is eighteen and I am twenty-seven. I’m too old for Dave.” Jennifer said to herself.
Jennifer then thinking about taking all her clothes off. She then decided to walk around the lawn and garden department. Jennifer wondered how long it would be until her next customer would show up. She was imagining herself walking around lawn and garden naked. Robert and Dave came back through the garden center. Jennifer hid behind some shelves.
“Robert, Dave, I don’t have any clothes on,” Jennifer yelled.
Jennifer realized she was still dressed. There were customers running over to see Jennifer naked.
“Oh, my god,” Jennifer whispered to herself as she realized she embarrassed herself for no reason.
Jennifer decided to straighten the items on the shelves. After that incident, there were no more customers for twenty minutes. She noticed a bottle of weed killer busted open. When Jennifer called the CSM podium, Jeri told her to put the bottle in an empty bag and mop up the floor.
“There should be some Spill Magic near the toy department,” Jeri said.
Jennifer then hung up the phone and went to get the Spill Magic.
“Some dumbass must not care who had to clean that up,” Jennifer said to herself.
The smell of the weed killer was giving Jennifer a headache. She then swept up the powdered weed killer and put it in the trash. Jennifer took the bottle to the service desk to have service desk write off the bottle.
“Jennifer, you’re supposed to work back there, not tear up stuff,” Lanita said jokingly.
“I thought I was back there to tear up stuff. Lanita, I done something I shouldn’t have done.”
“What was that?” she asked.
“I told Dave he was hot.”
“Nothing wrong with that,” Lanita said.
“That’s Cori’s boyfriend. She will think I am trying to take him. Please don’t say anything to her.”
“I won’t,” Lanita said.
Jennifer looked at her watch. It was 12:30 p.m. As she went back to her register, Dorothy stopped her and asked if she wanted to work at the service desk after lunch.
“I’d be happy to,” Jennifer said.
Jennifer then noticed that the inventory team was putting up Christmas merchandise. The inventory team was marking the plants down by half price.
“I love Christmas.” Jennifer thought to herself.
Jennifer saw Dave, Robert, and Carol from the inventory team putting up Christmas decorations .in the garden center.
“Robert, how come we’re putting up Christmas merchandise in October?”
“That’s what we have to do,” He said.
Jennifer waited for customers. She saw Dave putting up merchandise.
“Okay, Jennifer, he’s taken. You’re too old for him.” Jennifer said to herself.
Jennifer then heard the phone ring. It was Dorothy telling her to bring her drawer and lock it up. After that, Jennifer clocked out for lunch. Barbara and Jeri invited Jennifer to lunch. Paula also went along with them. Jennifer told her secret to Jeri and Barbara.
“Cori won’t like that,” Barbara said in her southern accent.
“I know. I’m scared. I, like, totally embarrassed myself in the garden center.”
Paula asked, “okay, Jen, what did you do?”
“I was imagining myself naked. Dave and Robert walked through there. I said that I was naked, but, I really wasn’t. Customers wanted to see me.”
“That would be embarrassing,” Barbara said.
All three women went to Jeri’s car. Jeri asked where they wanted to go. Barbara suggested the Super China Buffet.
“I love Chinese food,” Jeri said.
As they pulled out, Jeri set her cruise control at fifty. When she stopped at the next stoplight, she heard a car behind her screech their tires. Jennifer was afraid that the car would hit Jeri’s car.
“Thank god he didn’t hit us,” Jeri said.
When they reached the restaurant, the women had to wait for seating. The host then seated the four women. The host asked everyone what she wanted to drink. All of them wanted Pepsi.
“You can help yourselves,” the host then said.
As Jennifer tried to get an egg roll, another customer was reaching for the tongs.
“I’m sorry, ma’am,” he said as he let Jennifer use them first.
“Thank you, you are nice,” Jennifer said to him.
Jennifer then went to where the General Tso’s Chicken was. She told the person that she loves that chicken.
“I like how it’s sweet and spicy,” she added.
“I eat here quite often,” he said.
The man sat at a table close to the three women.
“That’s my brother,” Barbara said.
“He is hot. How old is he?” Jennifer asked.
“Twenty-four,” Barbara said.
Jeri and Barbara then told Jennifer that they had to use the bathroom. The man then came back to his table. Paula stayed at the table.
“Where are your friends? That other blonde-haired woman looked somewhat familiar. “Who’s the blonde sitting with you?” he asked Jennifer.
“I’m Paula,” she told Mark as she shook his hand.
“They had to use the bathroom,” she said.
“You are really hot,” Mark said to Paula.
“Thank you, Mark. I am married. But, thank you,” she told him.
“Barb said you’re hot…I mean her brother.” Jennifer corrected.
Paula nearly choked as she laughed at Jennifer’s mistake.
“I’m Mark. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you, Mark,” Jennifer said as Jeri and Barbara came back.
Jennifer introduced Jeri to Mark.
“Mark, do you know Barbara?” Jennifer joked.
“So, Barbara you think I’m hot?” Mark joked to Barbara.
“No, but, I know someone who thinks that,” Barbara said as she looked at Jennifer.
Jennifer then had to use the bathroom. When she finished she washed her hands and went back to the table. As she started eating again, she looked over at a lighted picture of the Hong Kong skyline.
“I would love to live in one of those apartment buildings,” she said.
“Why?” Jeri said.
“I would like living in a large city.”
Mark then said he would like to get to know Jennifer better. Right then someone ran into Jennifer’s left elbow, knocking her fork on the floor. The host then gave Jennifer a new fork.
She then tried putting the fork in her right hand. She was unable to control the fork as well.
“That asshole,” Jennifer said.
“Bitch,” The young man said.
“Yeah, I’m a bitch and I love being a bitch.” Jennifer then told him.
Mark then appeared to be blown away when he heard Jennifer talk like that. Jennifer then told him that she was the biggest one in Madison.
“I’m a quiet shy person. I can also be a bitch when I need to be. A customer called Barb and me ones when he tried to use a stolen credit card today.”
“People think Wal-Mart can afford to give everything away. They get mad when we don’t,” Jeri said.
“Dorothy asked me to work at the service desk after lunch,” Jennifer announced.”
“I can show you what to do,” Jeri explained.
Jennifer crossed her legs as Mark started to eat his food. Jennifer eyes started watering again.
“Mark, if you bought something at Wal-Mart that isn’t working, bring it back and I’ll give you a refund,” Jennifer said flirtatiously.
“I’ll remember that,” Mark told her in a sexy voice.
“Jennifer, there are little kids around,” Jeri said.
Barbara looked at her watch and told Jeri and Jennifer that they had only about twenty minutes left.
“Well, Mark, it was nice to meet you and maybe we’ll see each other again.”
“I would like to see you again, Jennifer. That is a pretty name.” He told her.
“Thank you,” she then said.
After they paid their bills, they got back in Jeri’s car and went back to Wal-Mart.
Chapter Two
Jeri decided to put gas in her car before going back to work.
“Jennifer, I think you may have a boyfriend,” Barbara told her.
“Your brother is really hot, Barbara.”
“Where does he work?” Jennifer asked.
Barbara said he worked at Rotary Lift. He has worked there for about three years.
“He’s on vacation this week,” Barbara said.
Jeri then finished filling her car. She put in $31.00.
“It was almost empty,” Jeri said.
They parked near the front of the store and went back to clock in. Jennifer went to the pharmacy to buy allergy medicine. After she got her medicine, she took some of it. Jennifer walked a little faster because she was excited about working at the service desk. Jennifer, Jeri, and Barbara clocked in and went to the front.
“Well, are you ready?” Jeri asked Jennifer.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” Jennifer said.
Jeri explained that Jennifer has to call the next number in line.
“Thirty-Five,” Jennifer said as she advanced the number on the sign that says, “Now Serving.”
“I bought this phone last week. I tried talking on it. There is nothing but static. I want to get an exchange,” the woman said.
“Do you have your receipt?” Jennifer asked.
“Yes, I do,” she said.
Jennifer went to refund mode and scanned the bar code on the receipt. She also scanned the bar code on the box.
“Okay, Ma’am. Just go back and get another one.”
Jeri told Jennifer that when the items are not exactly the same, not to do an even exchange. Beverly and Elena were helping the next two customers after that. The woman with the defective phone then returned to the service desk. The difference that the woman owed was $6.23. The woman the signed the refund slip. Jennifer put the slip in the basket next to her register.
“Jennifer, what do you do now?” Jeri asked.
“Thirty-Eight,” as she advanced the number.
“I just bought this soft drink. It rang up at $1.59, but it says $1.29 on the shelf.” The young man said.
Jennifer looked at the receipt, scanned the receipt, and gave him the difference of $0.32, which includes a sales tax difference of $0.02.
“The pricing team will need to change that price, Jeri said.
As Elena called number Thirty-Nine, Jennifer called number Forty.
“I bought this DVD. When I got it home, there was no DVD in the box. I lost my receipt.” the middle-aged man insisted.
“Beverly, what should I do about this?” Jennifer asked.
“Copyright law will not allow us to return it,” Beverly said.
“But the DVD was missing.” He pleaded.
“I’m sorry, sir. There is nothing we can do.” Beverly said.
The man then left and used some choice words on Jennifer and Beverly. Jennifer then took the returns and sorted them according to department.
“What do you think about being at the service desk?” Jeri asked Jennifer.
“I like it. I’d like to be up here more often,” Jennifer added.
Jennifer asked if they started the “Now Serving” sign on zero when the service desk opens in the morning.
“Not usually, unless it happens that way.”
Cori had brought her returns to the service desk to be put away. She then confronted Jennifer about what she said to Dave.
“So, Jen, you like Dave?”
“Cori, I’m sorry. I would never do anything to hurt you. Yes, I like him. He’s a nice person.”
“I’m sure you were just complimenting him. Remember he’s mine.” Cori then said.
Jennifer told Cori about the person she met at lunch. She also told Cori that Mark is Barbara’s brother.
“Barbara could be my sister in law someday,” Jennifer told Cori.
“I don’t know about that, Jen. You just met him about an hour ago, Cori then informed Jennifer.
“I don’t know him that well. However, I hope that changes. He works at Rotary Lift. Therefore, he makes good money. I do not know what it is about him. I'm just so desperate to find someone before I’m thirty.” Jennifer said.
“When you were in the bathroom, Jen, he said he would like to take you out sometime.” Jeri said.
“That would be nice,” Jennifer said.
Jeri then saw another customer and waited on her.
“Forty-One,” Elena called out.
The woman explained her problem. Jennifer then saw another customer. She called out his number as he was getting a numbered ticket.
“I just need to know what the balance is on the gift cards.”
Jennifer scanned the first of five cards.
“There’s $17.31 on this one. There is $19.88 on the second one. This one has $2.62 on it. You have $13.02 on the fourth one. There is nothing on the last one.
“I can use those for gas. Thank you for helping me,” he said.
Jennifer then told him to have a nice day.
“This day has gone by fast. A lot has happened today. I had a person look up my skirt. Someone called me a slut. I almost stole my best friend’s boyfriend. Nevertheless, I did meet a hot guy that I hope becomes my boyfriend.
“It wasn’t all bad,” Elena said.
Jennifer then said that she agreed with Elena. A middle-aged woman then came to the service desk with an open gallon of milk. The service desk started to get busy again. People started to take numbers again.
“Forty-Three,” Elena said as the woman went to Elena’s register.
“Forty-Four,” Jennifer called out.
A man was returning an old car battery. He told Jennifer that he should have a $7.00 refund for bringing the old battery back. Jennifer then put the old battery into an empty cart. After that, she processed his refund.
“You have a nice day,” Jennifer said to him.
“You, too,” he said as he left.
Jennifer called out number forty-six, as she saw that number forty-five was being served. A young teenager wanted to speak to a manager about his application.
“Co-Manager Beverly, please come to the service desk,” Jennifer announced over the loudspeakers.
“Someone will be with you in a minute,” Jennifer said.
“You have beautiful blonde hair,” he said.
“Thank you,” Jennifer said.
“I’ve seen you here before. How long have you worked here?”
“About a year and a half,” she said.
“You can’t be over seventeen or eighteen. What school do you go to?”
Jennifer then said she graduated high school.
“I’m twenty-seven. I wish I was seventeen.”
Beverly then came to talk to the teenager.
“Forty-Seven,” Jennifer called out.
The woman brought a television said it did not work. She had her receipt. Jennifer then scanned the barcode on the receipt and entered the UPC of the item being returned. Jennifer asked for the woman’s’ driver’s license and entered it into the register.
“Okay, it’ll be put back on your credit card,” Jennifer then told the woman.
The woman then thanked Jennifer for being so helpful. Jennifer then helped the next customer in line.
“Forty-Eight,” she said.
“I need a money order for $140.00,” said the man.
“Okay, that’ll be $140.46.”
He then counted the money to Jennifer, she then wrote the amount and serial number on the money order log. After she tendered the cash, she gave him a receipt and his change. Jennifer then told him to have a nice day. Elena called number forty-nine.
“Fifty,” Jennifer announced.
The man with his pregnant wife appeared to be depressed.
“We need a money order for $1,647.00,” she said.
“I can only make them out for $500.00,” Jennifer informed them.
“We’ll have to get four of them,” he said.
Jennifer then figured the amount needed for the money orders. She needed three of them for $500.00 each and one for $147.00.
“That’ll be $1,648.84,” She told them.
The woman counted out all the bills, mostly twenties and fifties. When she was finished, Jennifer printed out the money orders. The couple then left and cried loud. When they came back, Jennifer asked what was wrong.
“This money just got our house out of foreclosure,” the wife then said.
“That’s great,” Jennifer cried.
“Thank you, Jennifer,” said the man.
Jennifer then said she was only doing her job. After they left, Jennifer sat down on the floor and cried.
“Are you okay, Jen,” Jeri asked.
“The last customer and his wife just got their house out of foreclosure. I am the one who sold the money orders. It was about $1,600.00.”
“I heard what happened,” Jeri said.
Cori then came to the service desk to bring returns. She asked Jennifer what was wrong.
“I just helped a couple get their house out of foreclosure.”
“Jennifer, that’s something they won’t forget,” Cori assured her.
“Cori, you’re right.”
Jennifer started to feel better about helping the couple. Jennifer then started to sort returns according to department. She did that for the next twenty minutes. A young woman sat down at the employment application terminal. Jennifer continued working as she talked to the woman.
“Hi, what department are you applying for?” Jennifer asked her.
“I want pharmacy, electronics or cashier,” the woman said.
“Electronics would be interesting. We need cashiers.” Jennifer told her.
“I need a job. I am getting unemployment right now. I know someone who works here.” The woman said.
Jennifer said that getting unemployment made being out of work a little better. The woman said her name was Sara. Jennifer asked whom she knew.
“I’m Jennifer. It’s nice to meet you, Sara.”
Sara said the same thing to Jennifer. She told Jennifer that she knew cashier Maria.
“Oh, I sit with her in the break room all the time. She usually works second shift. I’m sure Maria will give you a good reference,” Jennifer assured Sara.
Jennifer then told Sara that she had to go back to work. Sara then finished the application about ten minutes later and left. After Jennifer sorted the returns, she informed all departments to get their returns. By then, Elena, Jeri and Irene had taken care of several customers.
“Fifty-Nine,” Jennifer then announced as she called for the next customer.
The woman needed to do a $262.00 Money Gram transfer. Jennifer had the woman fill out the transfer form. As Jennifer looked up the receive code, the woman said that it was for her car payment, which was due today. Jennifer then wrote in the receive code and rang up the sale on her register.
“That’ll be $270.95,” Jennifer told the woman.
The woman counted out the money and handed it to Jennifer. Jennifer then finalized the sale, went to the computer, and started the transfer. Jennifer also wrote the transfer on the logbook. When Jennifer was finished, she told the woman that the bank would have the money in about twenty minutes. Jennifer then gave the woman her receipt for her purchase. As Jeri called number sixty, Jennifer called number sixty-one.
“I bought these jeans two days ago. They are too big. I just need a smaller size,” said a young woman.
The woman left to get a different size of jeans. Jennifer called number sixty-three as she saw that number sixty-two was being served.
“I need a money order for $176.00.” The middle-aged man said.
Jennifer then logged the money order on the clipboard, had him sign the clipboard, and retrieved the money order from the printer.
“Jennifer, you can go to break,” Jeri said.
“Okay. I’ll see you in a few minutes.”
“Sixty-Four,” Jeri said.
Jennifer checked her voicemail on her cell phone.
“Hello, this message is for John Blakely.” said the voice on the voicemail.
“I have no idea who John Blakely is,” Jennifer said to herself.
Jennifer then saw Amanda in the break room.
“Hi, Amanda, how’s your first day?”
“Oh, very stressful.” she said.
“I hated toys,” Jennifer told her.
Jennifer then told Amanda she got a call from a creditor on her cell phone.
“I have no idea who it was for. I’ve only had my number for two months. I’ve got calls before for the same person.”
Jennifer then told Amanda she had to make a phone call. She then went to the hallway between the sales floor and the break room.
“Hello, I got a message to call this number,” Jennifer said.
“What is the number we called?” said the man with a foreign accent.
Jennifer then told him.
“I’m looking for a John Blakely. Are you his wife?” said the man.
“No, I’m not married,” Jennifer said.
“Do you know him?” the man said.
“No, I don’t. You’ve called for him several times before.” Jennifer said.
“I am sorry, Ma’am. I will remove your number from our system,” he told her.
Jennifer then hung up and went back to the break room. She then sat with Amanda. Jennifer told Amanda that she was asked by that collection agency if she was married.
“I’m twenty-seven and never been married,” Jennifer told Amanda.
“I’m through with men. I caught my boyfriend sleeping with another woman.”
“I haven’t even started with them,” Jennifer said.
“I’m afraid to say this, Jen, but, you friend Cori was kind of hot.”
“Excuse me,” Jennifer said.
“I’ve been a lesbian for about two years,” Amanda said.
Jennifer was getting uncomfortable and wanted to experiment at the same time.
“I have to get back to work,” Jennifer said in a rush.
“I will see you later, Amanda.”
Lanita saw Jennifer walking fast from the break room.
“Jennifer, are you okay?” Lanita said.
“Yeah, why do you ask?” Jennifer asked.
Lanita told Jennifer that she was walking fast.
“Lanita, that new girl in toys is a lesbian,”
“Amanda? Are you sure?” Lanita disputed.
“Yes. She told me. She said Cori is hot.”
“I didn’t know that,” Lanita said.
“I thought I’d let you know,” Jennifer said.
“Okay, I’ll see you later.” Lanita said.
Jennifer then returned to the service desk. Beverly called the next person in line.
“Seventy-Three,” Beverly said.
Jennifer called number seventy-four when she signed in to her register.
The young man came to the counter with a defective computer. Jennifer looked at his receipt.
“We can’t take it back after it’s been two weeks. You’ll have to go to the manufacturer.
“Oh, I didn’t know,” he said.
“Can you access the internet on it?” Jennifer asked.
“Yes, but it’s really slow.” He said.
Jennifer told him how to contact the manufacturer.
“Okay, I’ll try that.” He said.
Jennifer then thanked him and told him to have a nice day. As the man was leaving, Jennifer called for all departments to get returns. Jeri came back to the service desk after doing an override. Jennifer and Jeri then sorted returns together. Jennifer then felt a tap on her shoulder. She was surprised to see it was Mark.
“Hi, Jen,” Mark said.
“Hi, Mark,” she said.
“Jen, can I ask you something?”
“What is it?” Jennifer wondered.
“I want to ask you in private.”
“Seventy-Five,” Beverly called out.
He then called her away from the service desk.
“Jen, would you like to go out on a date Saturday night?” Mark asked.
“I would love to. I’ve been thinking about you all day.”
Mark recommended Applebee’s in Clarksville, about fifty miles from Madison.
“I’d love to go there,” she said.
Mark asked what time he should pick her up. Jennifer said that seven o’clock would be fine.
“I’ll see you then,” Mark said.
Jennifer then went back to the service desk walking like a happy schoolchild. Barbara went by and asked Jennifer what Mark wanted.
“I have a date with him Saturday night. Barb, do you think he’ll try anything with me?”
“Like what?” Barb asked, confused.
“Like, you know, have sex with me.”
“He doesn’t do that on a first date. Don’t be afraid, he’s a nice person.”
“I’m just nervous. I’m almost thirty and going on my first date, ever.”
“Thanks, Barb. Do you have my cell number?”
“I don’t think so.”
Jennifer and Barbara traded cell numbers.
“I’ll call you when we order our food,” Jennifer said.
“I’ll call you also, Jen.”
Barbara and Jennifer went to the service desk to help customers. Lanita and Beverly were waiting on customers. Jennifer and Barbara began helping the customers that have not been waited on.
“Seventy-Seven,” Jennifer called out.
“Seventy-Eight,” Barbara called out.
Mary from Personnel had a problem with a caller identification box that she bought.
“Hi, Jennifer,” Mary said.
Jennifer asked what was wrong with the caller identification box.
“Well, I put batteries in it and connected it to the phone line. I also made sure the brightness was turned up. But, the display is blank.”
“Would you like another box or a refund?” Jennifer asked as she looked at Mary’s receipt.
“I’d like to get another one,” Mary told Jennifer.
Jennifer called electronics and asked Kathy in Electronics to bring a box to the service desk.
“I’ll be right up,” Kathy said as Jennifer read the UPC.
“Thank you, Kathy,” Jennifer said.
Jennifer told Mary that Kathy would bring another unit to the service desk.
“Thank you, Jennifer,” Mary said.
“Have a good day,” Jennifer told Mary.
Jennifer then saw Cori bringing returns to the service desk.
“Cori, I have to talk to you,” she said.
“About what?” Cori asked.
“Amanda is a lesbian,” Jennifer whispered.
“You are not serious,” Cori said, surprised.
“She said you were hot. I sat with her on break and I thought she was going to start hitting on me.”
“Maybe we should stay away from her,” Cori informed Jennifer.
“That’s a good idea,” Jennifer commented.
Dorothy then had Jennifer get her drawer and count it. Jennifer went to the podium, retrieved her drawer, and went to the service desk. Jennifer had Beverly print an accounting report for Jennifer. She then put her countdown sheet to her left.
“Eighty,” Jeri said as she waited on the next customer.
“Wow, I done over $4,000.00 in cash sales today.” Jennifer said.
Jennifer finished writing down how much she had in change and paper money.
“I was $0.31 short today,” she said to herself.
Jennifer then put the money in the bag and put it in the cash office. She then had to use the bathroom. Jennifer saw Amanda going into the bathroom.
“Jennifer, I didn’t mean to scare you at break.”
“No, you didn’t. I was surprised to find that out.”
Jennifer wanted to touch Amanda’s breasts. Amanda wanted to do the same to Jennifer.
“Jennifer, can I tell you something and you promise not to repeat it.”
“What’s that?” Jennifer asked.
Amanda kissed Jennifer on the lips. Jennifer also wrapped her arms around Amanda. Amanda put her hand up Jennifer’s skirt.
“I did not just do that,” Jennifer said to Amanda.
Jennifer could not believe that she kissed another woman.
“I think I liked that,” Jennifer told Amanda.
Jennifer then told Amanda that she had to use the bathroom.
“Isn’t that why we’re in here?” Amanda said flirtatiously.
“Uh, yeah,” Jennifer said.
When Jennifer finished using the bathroom, she walked back to the time clock to clock out. Cori was also leaving at the same time as Jennifer.
“Jennifer, I thought I saw you and Amanda in the bathroom at the same time.”
“It was just coincidence,” Jennifer reassured her.
“Aren’t you a little uncomfortable around her?” Cori inquired.
“Yeah, just a little,” Jennifer lied.
Jennifer then started thinking dirty thoughts about Cori. Cori asked if Jennifer was okay.
“I’m fine, I’m getting a headache. I’ve had problems with customers all day.” Jennifer said.
“I have never had problems with customers,” Cori joked.
“Cori, are you and Dave going out Saturday Night?” Jennifer asked.
“I’m not sure if he has to work Saturday or not.”
Jennifer then told Cori that she had a date with Mark on Saturday.
“Where are you going?” she asked.
“Mark wants to take me to Applebee’s in Clarksville.”
“I’ve been there before. They have good food.”
Jennifer then told Cori that she needs a dress to wear.
“Make sure it’s not too short,” Cori told Jennifer.
“The shorter the sexier. What color should it be?” Jennifer said.
“I like black. Red may send the wrong message,” Cori told Jennifer.
“I’m really nervous. I really like Mark. He seems to be the one I want to spend my life with.”
“Jen, don’t worry about your date. You will be fine. Why don’t you call Barbara during your date and tell her what’s going on?” Cori said.
“I told Barb that I would call her when we ordered.”
“I’ll see you later, Jen.”
“Bye, Cori.”
Jennifer then imagined what Cori looked like naked.
“Am I lesbian or bisexual? I want to see my best friend naked. However, I have a date with a man. I feel like such a slut. Most of the women I went to school with are married and have families.” Jennifer questioned herself.
“I think I’m bisexual,” she thought.
Jennifer went to the women’s department and found a black skirt that she liked. She also got a white blouse and a jacket to go with her skirt and blouse. Jennifer asked Catherine, an older woman who works there to unlock the dressing room. Jennifer then noticed a middle-aged woman acting suspicious.
“You have a hot date?” Catherine asked.
“Actually, I do. It is Co-Manager Barb’s brother Mark. Do you see that woman over there?” Jennifer told Catherine.
“I’ve never seen him.”
Jennifer then went in to the dressing room, took off her clothes and tried on her new outfit.
“One-ten, to women’s apparel,” announced someone over the P.A. system.
“Oh, my god. They’re about to get her.” Jennifer said to herself.
Jennifer put on her outfit and looked at herself in the mirror.
“I look really hot in this outfit. I think it’ll get Mark’s attention.”
Jennifer then opened the door and asked Catherine to call Barbara to see her outfit.
“Barbara has left for the day,” she told Jennifer.
“Oh, okay,” Jennifer said.
Jennifer went back in the dressing room and changed back to her other clothes.
“I’m getting them,” she told Catherine.
Jennifer then went to the checkout. She went to Maria’s register.
“Hi, Maria.”
“Hi, Jen. You have a hot date?” Maria asked Jennifer.
“Yeah, it’s with Barb’s brother Mark.”
“Oh, wow. If he tries anything, you can tell Barb.”
“I know what you mean. Oh, your friend Sara applied here today.”
“I hope she gets hired. I’ll put in a good word for her.”
“That’ll be $31.18 with your discount,” Maria said.
Jennifer then used her debit card. Maria informed Jennifer that she used the wrong PIN number.
“I’ll re-enter my PIN,” Jennifer told her.
When her receipt printed, Maria told Jennifer to have a good day. Jennifer then leaves the store and goes to her car. She decided to get something to eat before going home. Jennifer went to Wendy’s. When she went inside, she told the cashier she wanted a spicy chicken sandwich combo.
“That’ll be $6.40,” said the cashier.
Jennifer handed the cashier $7.00 cash. When she got her change, she put it in her left skirt pocket. Jennifer got her soft drink. As she was getting ketchup for her fries, an older drunk man bumps into her and spills the ketchup on the front of her skirt. Jennifer could smell a strong alcoholic odor on him.
“Is there a manager here?” Jennifer asked the cashier.
The manager then came out.
“What seems to be the problem?” he asked.
Jennifer then explained that a man was drunk in the dining room. The manager then told the man that he would have to leave. The man left and went toward Clifty Drive. He walked across the street and was nearly hit by an SUV. A Kia Sportage did a nosedive trying to avoid him. The manager then called the police.
“Thanks to that dumbass, it looks like on my period,” Jennifer said in upset.
Jennifer then sat down. A young man and his girlfriend were at the next table.
“Hey, you, you should try a tampon,” he said.
“Be nice to her,” the girlfriend said.
“Very funny,” Jennifer said.
Jennifer asked them if they saw the man who bumped into her. The woman sitting next to Jennifer’s table said that it did not appear the SUV was speeding. The police gave the man a breathalyzer. His blood alcohol level was 0.174.
“I did. Is that him being put in handcuffs?”
“Yes, it is. It serves him right. He must’ve been drinking all day.” Jennifer said.
Jennifer then ate her sandwich and fries. She also covered the ketchup stain on her skirt. Jennifer decided to get a refill on her soft drink. When she finished eating, she went out to her car covering the stain.
