“You have got to be fucking kidding me.” Amy cursed into the cold night air through her open window when she heard the slap of split rubber against the asphalt. “I have two flat tires in my entire life, and they always happen when I’m in the middle of absolute nowhere. Great.”
Amy was just past her thirtieth birthday, four weeks and a day, to be exact. She had decided when she rounded the curve of her twenties to do something adventurous – something wild and out of control. She graduated college with a 3.8 GPA and a degree in Psychology, but never had the nerve to apply for graduate schools. She ended up as a case-worker at a nearby state hospital for a few years, but recently, had grown really sick of it. When she hit thirty, she knew she had to do something completely uncharacteristic, or she feared she’d never do anything at all with herself. She’d always had a little wanderlust, so she figured that this was as good a time as any to give in to it.
“Hell no, I don’t know what I hit!” she screamed into her mobile phone’s mouthpiece. She had called her boyfriend Doug in a panic. He was completely useless, as usual.
“Doug, okay thanks. That really helps. Yeah. Fantastic, I’ll just sit here on the side of a completely abandoned road and wait for some saintly trucker to ramble by and save me. Good night, Doug.” Amy swore again, loudly, into the night air before she decided that she should probably try to find somewhere to spend the night.
“Well, okay. At least my GPS still works.” She said to no one in particular. “Looks like I’m about three miles from the next town, so that shouldn’t be too bad. It isn’t too late – just after dark – so I can probably find a motel or something on the edge of town.”
As soon as she made up her mind to find civilization, she began to jog. She was in fairly remarkable shape for someone who spent as little time as possible exercising, so she made good time. About a mile and a half down the road, she got a little winded, and half-stumbled to a walking pace. While she ambled down the lonely, dusty interstate’s shoulder, her mind wandered. She wasn’t easy to spook by any means. She’d seen pretty much everything she could imagine during her years at the hospital, so little noises off in the woods didn’t have much of an effect on her. She began, strangely, to fantasize about something she kept buried way back in the depths of her mind.
For as long as she could remember, she’d wanted someone to surprise her out on a dark, secluded road like this, and take her right there and then. She’d had the fantasy many times, but always felt a little bit ashamed of her curious longing for pseudo-rape, and never tried to act on them, or even to get a boyfriend to tie her up or anything like that. It was something that was just a little figment of her imagination, and she wasn’t really sure why it came up right now, as she was actually wandering down such a road. Probably had something to do with how obnoxious and juvenile Doug, her worthless boyfriend, was.
Off to the south-east she spotted a farmhouse behind a large iron gate. The house seemed to be quite old, and as far as she could see there were no lights on. “Worth a shot, I guess.” She said under her breath, crossing the road and finding the gate half-open already.
“That’s a good sign, anyway,” she said as she started jogging again. “There’s gotta be someone in there. Might be my lucky day, or night, I guess.”
The house was an old style. Lots of harsh angles on the facade, and an incredibly steep roof – it almost looked like an old castle, there were even little towers on the corners. “If nothing else, I can take some pictures. This place is crazy looking.” She said, again, to no one in particular. As she followed the curved path to the door, her bizarre fantasy fired up again. She imagined that someone would open the door, someone tall and dark haired, and ravish her for hours. She noticed that this time, she got a little damp between her legs thinking about it.
The house, however, was obviously empty. Had been for some time, from the look of it, she decided when she got to the stoop in front of the large entry door. The door creaked open at her first knock, and she stepped inside. “Hello! Hello?” Amy called into the musty, echoing darkness of the ancient house. “Is anyone there? Hello?”
Satisfied that the house was as empty as she thought it was, Amy explored bottom level, poking around in the strange, seemingly ancient finery she found. Bone china, curious gold goblets and a case of porcelain dolls that all had to be at least a hundred years old took her attention for some time before she decided to call Doug one more time and tell him she found a place to stay.
“Jesus Christ, Doug, you could not be any more obnoxious if you tried. No, there aren’t any vampires or ghosts or witches. I bet, also, you’ll find no mummies or Frankensteins or Godzillas or any other damn thing you’re trying to scare me with here. What is here is a really old house with a layer of dust so thick I imagine no one has been here for a decade. I’m going to leave a note on the door in case anyone shows up and then crash on the couch. I’ll go the rest of the way into town tomorrow morning and get a tow truck.” She said when she grew tired of his warning her of poltergeists and monsters.
Her fantasy from earlier returned when she sunk down into a large, wing-backed couch and closed her eyes. She imagined the same dark-haired stranger from earlier, only this time, he was with a few friends. The old furniture and the musk of the air in the house did something to her. She slipped a hand under the loose waist of her soft, old jeans and she ran her fingertips up and down her slit before spreading her pink lips and slipping the tip of her index finger between them. Her smell mixed with the fantasy and the aroma of the house lulled her into a deep, unrelenting relaxation. Amy’s eyelids grew heavier as she fingered her button, and when she slid her middle finger knuckle-deep into wetness between her legs, she fell immediately into a deep sleep.
