Neal was furious to discover that Kevin had run away the night before the full moon. "Just give him time, Neal. He'll come around, Neal, just go easy on him," he said, mimicking the words Luke, his pack leader, had told him the day before. Neal paced around Kevin's small apartment, not just angry that the man had left, but that Kevin had left him. "Fuck." He shouldn't feel betrayed. Kevin was, after all, very new and he was still coming to terms with what he'd become. Neal knew that, so why did his unexpected absence hurt so damn bad?
His cell phone rang, pulling him out of his thoughts. Luke. Of course. "What?" he snarled.
"Is that any way to talk to your Alpha?" Luke might have been amused, but Neal wasn't in the mood for it.
He mentally counted to ten--ok, he started to count to ten and skipped a few numbers, but so what?--before responding. "Kevin won't be at the meeting tonight," he said through gritted teeth.
"Why not? Something come up?"
Neal sat down on the couch with a huff. "He fucking ran, Luke. He's just--gone. His scent's all over the place, though, so he probably left just before I got here." And what a nice scent it was, too... Damn, it wasn't fair that the man could get to him even when Neal was so furious.
"You sure he didn't just take a walk or something?"
"Pretty sure. Looks like he packed up a few things."
"Hang on a minute." Luke was silent, leaving Neal to his thoughts. "I think I might know where he's gone," the other man said. "Looks like he's got a cabin in the mountains a ways from here. If he's running scared, he'll probably head out there."
